King Triton is Ariel's father and the leader of the merfolk. King Triton despises the human world and does not approve of his daughter's infatuation. He considers his daughter's rescue of Prince Eric a crime and punishes her by destroying her grotto full of human artefacts which pushes Ariel to sign the deal wih Ursula.
