Although it probably didn't cross your mind when you watched the film as a child, King Triton can be seen as more than just the King of Atlantica when we look closely. God is often referred to as the Father, and in the film, King Triton is Ariel's father. God is the ruler of all and is able to pass judgement on all of his sons and daughters. This is yet another similarity between the Holy Father and King Triton. As the ruler of Atlantica, it is his word that goes and when Ariel is caught rescuing Prince Eric, which is seen as a crime in the eyes of King Triton, he punishes her by destroying her beloved grotto of human artefacts. Although there is no real image of God, the general consensus is that he is a man with long, white hair and a long white beard. Sound familiar? If it does, it's probably because if you add a pitch fork and a fin, you've got King Triton. Looking closely, it is very simple to see a clear connection between King Triton and The Lord.
